Film Review: Abbas Kiarostami’s Certified Copy
Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami enlists the beautiful and talented French actress Juliette Binoche for his dialogue-rich drama Certified Copy. Binoche, a mother and gallery owner, meets a visiting British author, played by opera singer William Shimell, and the two embark on a date in a neighboring town. Mistaken for a married couple, they decide to entertain the fantasy. If you’re a fan of Binoche, whose performance here was lauded in Cannes, we recommend checking out this deceptively simple narrative that questions the lines between near copies and originals, fictions and realities.
Certified Copy is a IFC Films release.
