Oh, Canada!: Ways to Celebrate Canada Day 2018 in New York City
Pull out the poutine, our neighbors to the north celebrate their 151st birthday today. And while our administration might be acting in an unfriendly manner to one of greatest allies, that doesn’t mean New Yorkers don’t appreciate all that Canada has given us and what it stands for. To mark Canada Day 2018, there are several events go on about town. Here are a few options:
SummerStage: Northern Beat: Broken Social Scene/Melissa Laveaux/The East Pointers
3-7pm (Doors open 2:00 pm)
SummerStage, Central Park, Rumsey Playfield, Manhattan, 10021
Free
It might not be the festivities of yesteryear, but a Canada Day celebration does return to Central Park this year. SummerStage hosts a killer showcase of Canadian musicians to celebrate Canada’s birthday. Toronto indie rock conglomerate Broken Social Scene tops the bill. Formed by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, at times the group has featured Feist, Emily Haines and Amy Millan. Also performing Haitian-Canadian singer-songwriter Melissa Laveaux, and Juno Award-winning folk group The East Pointers.
