Best Outdoor Screenings in NYC This Week: ‘Creature From the Black Lagoon’, ‘La Bûche’, ‘The Gospel of Eureka’ & ‘Style Wars’


Outdoor film screenings abound this week in New York City, as we officially head into summer. Movie Nights at Bryant Park, the series formerly known as the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival, kicked off its 2018 season on Monday with a rain-delayed screening of the John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club. The Bryant Park series runs through August 20. As for what’s still in store for the remainder of the week, Charlotte Gainsbourg stars in a food-themed offering from Films on the Green, Creature From the Black Lagoon (1954) slithers onto a screen in Ridgewood, Style Wars is celebrated, and Rooftop films delivers a pride-inspired evening featuring a Gospel drag performance.

Films on the Green Presents La Bûche (1999)

Rooftop Films: The Gospel of Eureka

Narrated by Mx Justin Vivian Bond, this uplifting documentary finds evangelical Christians and drag queens coming together for an exploration into love, faith and the fight for civil rights in a southern town. The film’s protagonist will do a Gospel drag performance at the after-party, which goes down at DCTV.
