Adam Green Shares ‘Freeze My Love’ Video, Announces New LP, Graphic Novel & Tour Dates
Adam Green’s creative output is as colorful as his last name. Which is why we’re excited about the news he unpacked this week. Green is releasing a new LP, Engine of Paradise, as well as a companion graphic novel War and Paradise. The graphic novel will be the artist’s first. To help with promotion, Green announced a tour and dropped a video for album track “Freeze My Love.” The video, which is included below, finds him showing off some of his signature dance moves.
Green’s last musical endeavor was Adam Green’s Aladdin, a psychedelic papier-mâché re-make of the Arabic Nights folk tale, starring Macaulay Culkin, Natasha Lyonne, Alia Shawkat, Devendra Banhart, and Zoe Kravitz. The project yielded a film, a soundtrack, and a touring show. Green adopted a very distinct color palette for Aladdin, which he continues to use. It can be seen in the video for “Freeze My Love,” which was shot by Pete Voelker while Green was constructing his “Pizza Beach” installation at the Museum of Pizza. It also carries over to the graphic novel.
As for the single, “Freeze My Love,” Adam describes it as “a road trip song where your Corvette is a JPG filled with flesh cruising towards a blockchain horizon.” He also added, “I think it’s a pretty song, I wish there was a radio station that played it continuously.”
Just like in the video, which finds Green building with a crew of his pals, the artist got help from some friends for the new album. Recorded by Loren Humphrey, the LP is said to be sonically connected to Green’s more orchestral output from the early 2000s and features performances by James Richardson (MGMT), Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine) and Jonathan Rado (Foxygen). Engine of Paradise is Green’s 10th solo LP.
Both the new album and War and Paradise explore the clash between humans and machines. Among the characters in the graphic novel are a group of bathers that purify their souls in sex therapy sessions on the beaches of paradise. It sounds pretty psychedelic. We can’t wait!
Green celebrates the release of the record, which drops on September 6 via Danger Mouse’s imprint 30th Century Records, with a show at Rough Trade in Brooklyn. Tickets go on sale May 31 at 10am EDT. He follows up with a European tour, see dates below.
