Film Review: Cyril Tuschi’s Khodorkovsky
Mikal Khodorkovsky, one of the most high-profile prisoners in Russia, is the subject of this fascinating and exhaustive documentary. German filmmaker Cyril Tuschi wanted to know why one of the richest men in Russia and former Yukos Oil CEO was behind bars, so he began asking questions in a country that tends to be tight-lipped. Through interviews with insiders and former colleagues, most of who no longer live in Russia, he pieces together Khodorkovsky’s path from socialist to oligarch to martyr. A controversial figure, this watch-worthy industrialist’s tale doubles as a chronicle of capitalism’s evolution in post-Soviet Russia.
Khodorkovsky is a Kino Lorber release.
