Jenny Lewis Shares “Rabbit Hole” Video ft. Mac DeMarco
With Jenny Lewis’s U.S. tour in support of On the Line hopping along nicely, the musician has shared a video for album track “Rabbit Hole.” The clip should be familiar to those who tuned into Lewis’s telethon, “On The Line Online – The Three Hour Listening Party & Fundraiser,” which happened earlier this year. You can watch the video, which includes cameos by Mac DeMarco and King Tuff, below.
Prior to the release of On the Line, her fourth solo record, Lewis worked with Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim’s Abso Lutely Productions on a telethon to raise money for the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center. The event was streamed live via YouTube and featured a slew of special guests including Heidecker, Jeff Goldblum, Vanessa Bayer, Beck, Jason Schwartzman, and St. Vincent. During the show, filmmaker Eric Notarnicola (Mister America) directed a live music video for “Rabbit Hole.” He shot it in two parts during the telethon. He has since edited the parts together to come up with the stand-alone clip below. You may recall, Lewis’s video for “Red Bull & Hennessy” was also cobbled together from the telethon footage.
Lewis enlisted Beck to produce “Rabbit Hole.” With lyrics, “I’m not gonna go down the rabbit hole with you, with you, with you again,” the song is about breaking free and not getting sucked back into bad, dysfunctional relationships.
In the “Rabbit Hole” video, three “face-less” musicians dressed in full body masks accompany Lewis on a surreal and pastel-colored odyssey. It isn’t until the end, when the costumes come off, that we see Mac DeMarco was on drums and King Tuff was on guitar.
Lewis’s On the Line tour recently brought her through New York City. She played Kings Theatre on October 24. The day prior she was the musical guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where she performed “Rabbit Hole.” The song ended with Lewis being carried offstage by a man in a rabbit costume. We’ve included the video from the show below.
Lewis plays Ithaca, New York tonight and finishes out her headlining tour this weekend. Come December, she’ll be heading to the UK to support The National. See dates below. On the Line is available here.
