John Dwyer’s Oh Sees (AKA Thee Oh Sees, OCS, etc.) make their annual pilgrimage to New York City this weekend amid an extensive North American tour. The band plays three shows (Friday, October 18, Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20) at Warsaw in Brooklyn. Friday and Saturday are sold out, but there are still tickets available for Sunday (trust us, you don’t want to miss Dwyer do his thing live). To coincide with the tour, the band has released a video for their 20+ minute song “Henchlock.” You can watch it below.

2019 has been a very good year for Oh Sees fans. Via Dwyer’s Castle Face Records, the band reissued three of their older records, LPs The Cool Death Of Island Raiders and Thee Hounds of Foggy Notion, and the EP Grave Blockers. Then in August, they released the double LP Face Stabber. Another mind-bending psych-punk triumph, Dwyer continues to do it his way. And seriously, with over 20 albums in and cult-like status, why stop now? Face Stabber was recorded at Sonic Ranch where Dwyer also worked on previous LPs Orc (2017) and Smote Reverser (2018).

Face Stabber’s epic closer “Henchlock” was the first track the band shared from the record. In a track-by-track rundown of the album for Consequence of Sound Dwyer described it as “the lament of a stooge who, after many dark tasks, wonders, “Am I the bad guy?”.” The official video for the song, written and directed by Matthieu Moerlen, is enigmatic and finds people having bizarre relationships with technology. It features poet Jack Servoz and actress Marion Seclin.

As far as what to expect on the Oh Sees’s current jaunt, Dwyer’s touring band comprises Tim Hellman on bass, Dan Rincon and Paul Quattrone on drums, and Tomas Dolas on keyboards. The group has been incorporating a handful of new songs into their sets. “Henchlock” is becoming a go-to, as has “The Daily Heavy,” “Snickersnee,” and “Gholü.”

In related news, Castle Face Records is also releasing the album for Dolas’s side project, Mr. Elevator. Goodbye, Blue Sky is due out January 17, 2020. You can check out the album’s lead single, “Alone Together,” here.
