Watch the Heartbreaking Trailer for Tribeca Film Festival’s ‘I Am Heath Ledger’; Tickets on Sale Now
In honor of what would have been Heath Ledger’s 38th birthday, Spike TV has shared a heartbreaking trailer for I am Heath Ledger, a new 90-minute documentary about the actor. The film will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23. Tickets are on sale now and you can watch the trailer below.
Heath was a rising star in Hollywood. A gifted and generous actor, he’s ambition was to eventually move into directing. It was an absolute shock when he was found dead of an accidental drug overdose in 2008. He left behind a substantial body of work, including his star-turning portrayal of a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain and Oscar-winning performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight.
I am Heath Ledger is being touted as a definite look at Heath’s life and work. Directed by Derik Murray and Adrian Buitenhuis, the documentary uses personal home movies shot by the actor combined with interviews with close friends, family members, and peers, such as Naomi Watts, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, directors Ang Lee and Catherine Hardwicke, musicians Ben Harper and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), and the Ledger family.
Produced by Spike TV, the documentary is screening in the Tribeca Film Festival’s TV program. Tribeca TV, which is now in its second year, showcases highly anticipated new shows, returning favorites and indie pilots. After I am Heath Ledger’s premiere at the festival, the film will receive a limited theatrical release on May 3, followed by an airing on Spike TV on May 17 and DVD release on May 23.
