Sleep-In Cinema Comes to The Standard High Line

Sleep-In Cinema Comes to The Standard High Line

The Standard and sleep industry pioneer Casper are getting in bed together for a new film series. Entitled Sleep-In Cinema, the series is like a drive-in, but instead of watching films from a car, you watch them from a bed. The bed’s vary in size, from twin to king, and accommodate 2 to 6 people. In terms of the films, the series is going with cult classics like Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Groundhog Day. You can find the complete schedule below.

The concept of a communal film experience involving beds isn’t new. Both Korea and Hungary boast permanent theaters equipped with beds; Korea has two Tempur Cinemas, in CGV CINE de CHEF in Apgujeong and Centum City, while Hungary’s bed cinema is at the Buda Entertainment and Gastro complex in Budapest. A suburb of Sydney recently played host to Mov’ In Bed, a mattress-filled pop-up outdoor cinema. And, in 2014, Swedish furniture brand IKEA turned a gutted theater in Khimki, Russia into a bedroom cinema temporarily as part of a campaign called “Wake Up Love” promoting bedroom furnishings.

Tickets for The Standard and Casper’s Sleep-In Cinema are on sale now. Beds run $45-$75 depending on size and include popcorn, candy, snack, water and soda. Taking place in the hotel’s High Line room, screenings start at 8:30pm and are preceded by a cocktails that start at 6:30pm. For more information and to purchase a bed, click on this link.
