Ty Segall Shares Video for “Californian Hills”, Playing In the Red Records Party This Weekend & NYC Next Week
Ty Segall is a man with a plan and it involves making music, touring, making more music, and more touring. Just back from an extensive European jaunt with the Muggers (you can see photos of their shenanigans on Kyle Thomas’ Instagram), Segall has shared a psychedelic animated video for Emotional Mugger’s “Californian Hills”. This weekend Segall plays two sets at the In the Red Records 25th Anniversary Festival in Los Angeles, one with Mikal Cronin and the other with his new band GØGGS. The guitar rocker than sets out a short tour with GØGGS that finds him playing two shows in New York City next week.
The video for “California Hills”, directed by Meghan Tryon and Garrett Davis, is what birthday party nightmares are made of. The video opens with an invite to Sloppo’s first birthday party that’s main selling point is that it features a clown. But the clown is kind of bumbling, and clearly wants to get as far away from this party as possible. The resulting video is a tripped out visual assault with the clown making a break for it. You can check it out below.
With his tour with the Muggers now complete, Segall is going to be hitting the road with one of his other bands, GØGGS. The group, which finds Segall teaming up with Ex-Cult’s Chris Shaw and Charles Moothart of Fuzz, released their self-titled full length debut on July 1 via In the Red. Bursting with energy, the album takes punk to weird and wonderful new heights. The crew’s live shows should incite some killer mosh pits. You can stream the album in its entirety over at Spin or pick it up here.
In addition to their previously announced NYC show at Rough Trade (tickets), GØGGS have added a show at Baby’s All Right with opener Babes. Tickets are on sale now. You can find the complete GØGGS tour schedule below. It’s likely this will be all she wrote in terms of the band touring, so best jump on tickets if you want to catch them live.
