Girlpool, Screaming Females to Play Don Giovanni’s New Alternative Music Festival

Don Giovanni Alternative Music Festival lineupBack in January we reported that Don Giovanni Records was organizing a music festival because they were fed up with the way advertisers have co-opted the indie music landscape. Today, the label shared additional details about the sponsor-free, pro-weirdo event, including the initial lineup which features Girlpool, Screaming Females, Ought, Downtown Boys and more.

Set to take place September 16-18 at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ, Don Giovanni’s fest, which is aptly titled The New Alternative Music Festival (NAMF), is being held in “direct opposition to the apolitical sludge that has come to pass as “indie” and that has nothing to do with operating independently.” As such, the event is strictly showcasing bands that don’t have ties to major labels or corporate music distribution. According to Don Giovanni’s Facebook page, the organizers’ goal is to reflect a community rather than aim for critical acclaim. They have invited bands that not only make great music, but are also peers, tour mates, and friends. In addition to the bands mentioned above, other acts include Antibodies, Aye Nako, Daniel Bachman, Big Eyes, Mal Blum, California X, Chain And The Gang, Nato Coles, Dusk, Dyke Drama, Giant Peach, Izzy True, Jamie Kilstein and The Agenda, Kindling, Amy Klein, Longings, Mikey Erg, Mirah, Moor Mother Goddess, Nude Beach, Outer Spaces, P.S. Eliot, Painted Zeros, Pinkwash, Puff Pieces, Radiator Hospital, Roadside Graves, Sammus, Selector Dub Narcotic, Shellshag, Laura Stevenson, Tenement, The Max Levine Ensemble, The Rememberables, Trophy Wife, Try The Pie, Upset, Vagabon, and Worriers, with more to be announced.

The organizers have also stated that this will be a one-off event. They don’t plan on repeating it in subsequent years.

As for tickets, they are available now for purchase. Single-day tickets are $28 in advance and $30 at the door, with three-day passes going for $75. You can purchase them here.
