‘Ghostbusters’ Kicked Off The HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival 2015
It seemed like everyone and their brother showed up last night for the inaugural screening of The HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival 2015 presented by Bank of America. The park was filled to the gills. The lawn opened at 5pm, and within 5 minutes there are few green spots remaining. There’s a bit of cult-like atmosphere at this free film series that you don’t get at other outdoor screening series in the city. People really get into it and they they bring elaborate feasts. This series also differs from some of the others in that it features a diverse mix of Hollywood classics.
The original Ghostbusters (1984) directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd had the honor of kicking off this year’s 10-week series. There was definitely added enthusiasm for the selection since the all-female, Paul Feig-directed reboot has been making headlines of late. We spotted several people dressed up as ghostbusters, kids were wearing old ghostbusters t-shirts and there was a photo booth where people could put on a pack and pretend like they were hunting poltergeists. Bank of America raffled off some film prize packs and handed out some free Ghostbusters-inspired snacks too: green-colored kettle corn and water.
Food vendors from the Hester Street Fair were on hand and will be returning every Monday throughout the series to provide edible options for those that don’t bring their own. We spotted Red Star Sandwich, Renegade Lemonade, Cofeed, and Waffles and Dinges, among others.
The series continues every Monday night through August 24, with the films starting around 8:30pm. Check below for a complete schedule of all the amazing classics coming up this summer, as well as some photos we snapped at last night’s festivities.
