House of Vans to Host One-Day Art Installation ‘Metamorphosis’, RSVP Now
Witness the Metamorphosis. Next Saturday (Jan. 16), House of Vans is hosting a wondrous one-day art installation created by artists Hisham Akira Bharoocha and Santtu Mustonen. At the center of the work is an immersive, large-scale floating tunnel that features kinetic light animations that play with a variety of interactive elements. Bharoocha has selected an eclectic mix of musicians and dancers, including Brian DeGraw (Gang Gang Dance), Venus X, DJ Tameil, MikeQ / Qween Beat, IIII, Leggo Labeija, Tygapaw, Dutch E Germ and Soft Circle, to activate the installation live.
Guests are invited to explore the 40-ft floating sculpture, which is created using light sensor technology and projection mapping and is made up of trippy animations inspired by metamorphosis in nature. The animations, which are designed in collaboration with Dave Rife and Gabe Liberti of Dave and Gabe, will react to the music and will also morph throughout the night creating a sort of wormhole effect. Additionally, a 3-D photobooth by A-1 Array is going to document revelers during the event. As is customary at a House of Vans shindig, beverages (courtesy of Goose Island) and food will also be available.
As for the duo producing the work, Hisham Akira Bharoocha is a Japanese-born multi-media artist and founding member of bands Lightning Bolt and Black Dice. His current musical project is the trance-inducing, loop-heavy Soft Circle, who will also perform at Metamorphosis. You can listen to a sample below. Bharoocha’s partner in crime, Santtu Mustonen, is a Finnish illustrator known for his psychedelic animations that play off the contradiction of organic and artificial. You can see a video of his style below.
In order to get in on this free mind-altering experience, you just need to RSVP here. We suggest doing so soon, as it’s sure to sell out. Metamorphosis takes place Saturday, January 16, 5pm-2am. The event is all ages, but you need to be 21+ to drink alcohol.
